In my novel series Wargs Trilogy I try to introduce the potential realities that CAN result from unrestrained exploitation of Transgenics. As with all areas of science, there are pros and cons centered around the moral and ethical dilemmas posed by pushing the limits of new areas of scientific research. I am continually reminded of a dialog from the original movie "Jurassic Park" Wherein Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) says; "... Um, I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had..." Then he follows up with my favorite line; "...your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."
The BBC posted an excellent article that highlights the central elements of the debate surrounding Transgenics This is a MUST READ.
